A typed carbon copy of a paper about the discovery and development of the iron ore industry in Minnesota's Vermilion Range. Morcom describes the discovery of iron ore in the region and the formation of the Minnesota Iron Company in 1882, of which he was made superintendent. Information is given on the founders and officers of the company; the arrival of miners and families from Michigan to work in the mines; and the development of mines and mining towns. Morcom later became the master mechanic of the Soudan Mine.
